Death Cab for Cutie

After the enjoyment of Weezer, I headed to Death Cab hoping for much of the same – and while the tunes sounded great, this was possibly one of the dullest gigs to photograph I’ve seen this year. When the singer heads for a keyboard hidden at the back of the stage for the first track it’s never a good sign, and it continued in that vein – while he was certainly animated during second track ‘New Year’ the absence of light (the band seemed to be playing with just the in-house production, and half of that wasn’t on) and the double microphone set up made for some rather lacklustre photos. (Not to mention only finding out a few hours before the gig I was shooting it, and as a result being without a 70-200mm lens) In the end the flash came on for a few shots to salvage something – given they were the shots used by the Guardian and the Independent, it goes to show pushing your luck with security is sometimes worth the risk!
