Deftones live at the O2 Academy Brixton, February 2013

Deftones

Epic is a word I seem to be using alot lately. And it’s an entirely apt description of how Deftones were this evening.

I must admit it’s taken me a few years (forgive my indie ways….) to quite ‘get’ these guys, but in a brilliant venue (rather than a festival stage) I finally could hear how well crafted the songs were and how the band gels together. While everyone was at home putting up with Ben Howard winning Brit awards, a few thousand lucky folk got to hear – and feel- just how powerful music can be when turned up to 11.

  1. Hello Nick,
You’ve to so many concerts, can you tell me if over the years the quality of the concerts when up or down in you opinion. I don’t go to too many concerts, but i feel like everybody is doing only commercial music now and they have taken out the fun that a few years back we would have had by going to watch our favorite artists perform live. I think half of them aren’t even live anymore.

  2. There’s still some brilliant artists making exciting, innovative music – and of course some doing what they’ve always done as well as ever. I guess after seeing so many shows I’ve come to expect a much higher degree of production, largely because the live industry has become much more valuable to bands, but it’ll always be about the soul of the music, and there will always be artists who have that soul. Sometimes it’s just harder to find them!
